My Journey of Faith: Growing in Christ, Renewal of Mind, & Defending Faith

Image
I became a born-again Christian when I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior in 9th grade. I was an ardent Roman Catholic before that and when my history teacher, Selvanathan, presented the Gospel to me, I couldn’t help but feel the need for my sins to be washed and that I need a savior. I prayed and welcomed Jesus into my heart on that day in the year 1999. Since that day I have experienced a total transformation that occurred within me. I began sharing the gospel with fellow students and started sharing the gospel with strangers I meet on the road through means of tracts, pamphlets, and personal conversations. God helped me to find two born-again believers, Raja and Edward, in my class to have fellowship. Together we started reaching out to the nearby villages and towns near my hometown in India and sharing the good news of salvation in Christ Jesus. The passion and desire to share the T...

Rational Faith Q&A-1: If God is Omniscient & Sovereign, why pray?

Image
The natural question that arises when we come to realize God’s Sovereignty and Omniscience is: If God knows what I need and what I would ask even before I ask and God is sovereign, who brings His plan and purpose to fruition, then can I change God’s heart through prayer?  GOD IS IMMUTABLE: The Bible declares God is unchanging. No man can change God. And if one can change God’s will then God is no longer God for God by definition is immutable. He doesn’t have a learning curve, and nothing surprises God. There is nothing God is yet to realize for God knows everything. That's why the Hebrew writer boldly declares, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." (Heb. 13:8). Moreover, since God is not a man who changes his mind the Bible says, "God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind." (Num. 23:19). If we cannot change God’s heart by praying then what can be the purpose of prayer? THE PARADOX OF PRAYER: Thr...

The Problem of Evil and God's Existence - A Review of St. Augustine's Theodicy

Image
Aurelius Augustine or Saint Augustine of Hippo who lived from AD 354–430  is widely recognized as the most influential Christian thinker, outside the biblical writers, in world history. His brilliance and sincere heart to seek God made him one of the most significant defenders of the Christian faith. Augustine's work influenced Martin Luther who defended justification by faith alone through whom the protestant reformation began. Augustine's famous notion of 'imago dei' points out that human beings are made in the image of God that when we turn inward and then upward we will be able to see things more clearly of God. It is an attestation to Apostle Paul's words, "Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God." (Romans 1:20) Augustine's explanation for the Triune God springs out of that as he pointed out the indivisibleness of the tripartite soul o...

Tithing: Is Tithing a Commandment of the New Testament?

TITHING: 'Is tithing a commandment of the New Testament?' 1. INTRO - WHY GOD WANTS US TO GIVE? Whenever God asks us to do something, He does it with a purpose. When Jesus asked the rich man to sell his treasures and follow Him, He said so not to make him homeless but to make him realize that no one can earn God's grace by keeping the law and of course the rich man failed to keep the law by coveting riches. God's Purpose comes before His Plan and His intent comes before the content.  2. PURPOSE OF GIVING: From the beginning, God instigated giving for these two reasons. Scriptures over and over affirm these 2 as the ultimate purpose of giving:  1. ACKNOWLEDGING GOD FIRST   2. TRUSTING GOD WITHOUT ANY DOUBT 1. Acknowledging God first: Acknowledging God is being thankful and grateful to the One who gave us everything we have in the first place. From Able all the way to the widow's offering, God paid close attention to the heart and not at the quantity offered. If we tru...

The Second Coming Of Christ: Secret or Public?

THE RETURN OF THE KING: SECRET OR PUBLIC? Since we are living in a desperate time and the signs of the end of times are alarming, I thought it would be appropriate to share on the subject of Christ's second coming. This article addresses a common but important question on this subject: "Is there a secret Coming of Christ? Will Jesus come twice, pre-tribulation secretly and Post-Tribulation publicly?" 1. INTRODUCTION: The Bible is very clear; there is no mention of a secret coming of Christ. The Bible only speaks of the second coming of Christ, only once to establish His kingdom in this earth to rule for 1000 years. He comes not to take us away secretly but to openly establish a kingdom on this earth. And at the end, we together will inherit the New Heaven and Earth after the 1000 years of God's kingdom on this earth. So, when will Jesus come? 2. THE LAST TRUMPET: When Paul talks about the second coming of Christ in 1 Corinthian 15 and  1 Thessalonians 4,...

Revelation Revealed: A Study on the Book of Revelation

Revelation Revealed: A Study on the Book of Revelation I have penned down a short summary of the book of Revelation based on my study of the book. Since many people have difficulty understanding the book of Revelation because of the several visions, which may be difficult to understand, I thought this would be an appropriate post for those who are try8ing to understand the book.  ____________________________ 1. INTRODUCTION: As we read the book of revelation, we should understand that John is writing these visions that he saw as a symbolic representation of many things: The things that had already happened. The things that were happening at the time he wrote the letter. The things that are happening at present in our time The things that will continue to happen until Christ returns The things that are yet to happen. More importantly, the book is not to be taken as a sequential order of events based on the chapter order. The order of chapters is not meant to say that things will hap...

Righteousness Through Faith - 1

"Righteousness Through Faith - 1" -------------------------------------------------- Recently, I encountered the following question in several different forms and sources. So, I decided to address it here hoping it will benefit you. Question 1: After becoming a Christian, does my salvation depend on my works? Answer: No, our salvation was never dependent on the works of any law, because the law cannot condemn a Christian as sinner. Romans 8:1 says, "So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death". Although the law is still there and we strive to keep it out of fear or love, it cannot condemn us. Neither it can prevent your salvation. In this we see a great picture of God's abundant grace. When we were sinners, if we became Christians by grace through faith without any merit (work), then it i...
